Ways To Give
Samohi Scholarship Fund
The Ed Foundation is honored to manage the Samohi Scholarship Fund, which gives out over $200,000 in scholarships to approximately 200 graduating seniors every year. Samohi students are incredibly fortunate to be supported by a community of donors who want to assist in their future endeavors.
The Samohi Scholarship Fund is run by the Samohi Scholarship Committee, comprised of the three college counselors, current and former teachers, and community members with a connection to Samohi. Each spring, seniors are invited to apply for a myriad of scholarships. At the end of each school year, there is a ceremony where scholarship funders can meet the student recipients.

Jimmy Bromberg Memorial Scholarship Fund
Jimmy Bromberg Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Jimmy Bromberg Memorial Award was created to honor Jimmy Bromberg’s legacy. Jimmy, a 2004 graduate of Santa Monica High School, passed away from cancer in March of 2014. Jimmy was a kind and generous young man, as well as an excellent student and athlete. His desire to help others learn and succeed prompted him to become a teacher.
As a teacher at Santa Monica’s Lincoln Middle School (which Jimmy had attended), he taught a variety of courses including AVID, a program designed to assist students who would be the first in their family to attend college. Jimmy believed that everyone should have equal access to a quality education, which is a key reason he was so passionate about teaching.
Each year the Bromberg family selects outstanding Santa Monica High School graduating seniors who are members of the AVID program to receive laptop computers for use in college.
Student feedback reinforces that a computer is essential for a successful college career and that receiving one as an award alleviates a significant financial burden.
Your contribution will ensure that Jimmy’s family can continue to assist these outstanding students.

Katherine McTaggert Scholarship for Violence Prevention
Katherine K. McTaggart
(1943-2012)
Katherine McTaggart, better known around the Santa Monica community as Kathy, was a licensed therapist who specialized in work with adolescents and their families. She worked for sixteen years as a School and Community Partnership Coordinator in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. In 1988 she was honored as YWCA Woman of the Year.
A valedictorian of Suffern High School in Suffern, New York, she graduated from Smith College summa cum laude in 1965 with two BA degrees, one in social work and one in art history. Then she earned two MA degrees in art history and in child development from New York University, followed by a Master’s in Family and Child Counseling (MFCC) from CSU Northridge.
Kathy was loved by the countless young people whom she befriended while working as a therapist at various Santa Monica schools. In addition to working at Santa Monica High School, Kathy was also the on-site therapist in the early 1980s at Olympic Continuation School, where she counseled students, meeting with their families and enabling many to stay in school and resist drugs and other dangers that their peers were involved in. She developed a genuine rapport with her students, which in turn led to long lasting friendships. Over the years she stayed in touch with many of her former students.
Kathy was also active in youth-serving organizations in the community such as the Police Activities League (P.A.L.), where she served on the Board of Directors. As a part of city and county social service networks, she had extensive knowledge of community resources for youth and families. Prior to settling in Santa Monica, she had worked in Hong Kong, Indonesia, and New York. She is a person of value who will always be remembered.
