Donations to the Ed Foundation’s annual campaign and endowments directly benefit students at every Santa Monica school.

Annual donations to the Ed Foundation fund P.S. ARTS, instructional aides and a stretch grant for each school. Some programs funded by stretch grants are being finalized by principals and school site councils. The lists will be updated as programs are finalized.

Ed Foundation endowments pay for additional arts and music support, while the Ed Foundation’s blue book bins support school libraries.

Edison Language Academy

At Edison, the stretch grant is used to invest in the vibrant future of our young learners by supporting our dynamic arts and garden programs. Your contributions directly fund enriching experiences for our students, fostering creativity, cultural awareness, and a love for nature. We have several exciting programs planned for the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Spanish Music Program for PreK-2nd Grade: Our programa de musica en española immerses our youngest students in the rich cultural heritage of Spanish music, complete with accompaniment for performances, enhancing their musical skills and cultural appreciation. This program runs for 28 weeks.
  • Visual Arts Program for TK-5: Inspire creativity and artistic expression through a 10-week visual arts program that equips students with the tools and skills to explore their artistic potential. Supplies included.
  • Garden Teacher for TK-2 and Garden Club for Grades 3-5: Our Science in the Garden program provides direct instruction one day per week for 30 weeks, instilling a love for nature and hands-on learning in our students. This includes the maintenance and care of our garden, creating a sustainable and educational environment. Supplies included, ensuring our garden is well-equipped with the necessary tools and materials to support both the instructional program and the garden club.

Franklin Elementary School

Stretch Grants, made possible by your donations to the Ed Foundation, enhance the educational experience of our students by supporting key initiatives that foster creativity, social-emotional learning, and scientific exploration. Your contributions directly fund essential programs that enrich our school community:

  • PS Arts: Providing our students with comprehensive arts education through the PS Arts program, helps integrating visual and performing arts into the curriculum to inspire creativity and enhance academic performance.
  • STAR Science: Our science curriculum utilizing the STAR Science program, delivers hands-on, inquiry-based science lessons that ignite curiosity and foster a deep understanding of scientific concepts.
  • Responsive Classroom Training: Provides support for ongoing professional development for our educators with Responsive Classroom training, focusing on advanced strategies to create a positive and engaging classroom environment that supports student social-emotional growth.

Grant Elementary School

Thanks to generous contributions to the Ed Foundation, Grant students benefit from the following programs and resources:

  • Art classes for all students with P.S. ARTS
  • Funding for additional 12 weeks of art classes
  • Classroom aides (helping with small group instruction, reading intervention, social-emotional support, and more)
  • Funding for additional classroom aide
  • 5th grade jazz musical theater dance

McKinley Elementary School

Stretch Grants made possible by your donations to the Ed Foundation allow our school to invest in the comprehensive development of our students by supporting our enriching arts and science programs. Your contributions directly fund a variety of impactful educational experiences, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning. We have several exciting programs planned for the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Music Rhapsody: This TK-2nd grade music program provides our youngest students with a robust music education, enhancing their cognitive development and creativity through engaging and interactive music lessons for 30 weeks.
  • PS Arts Theatre: Helps cultivate confidence and self-expression in our TK-5th grade students with a theatre program that brings the arts to life, encouraging collaboration and communication skills through performance. (partial program funding for 13 weeks of classes)
  • P.S. Science: These TK-5th grade science lessons spark curiosity and scientific inquiry with hands-on science lessons that inspire a passion for discovery and innovation in our students. (partial program funding for 30 weeks)

Roosevelt Elementary School

Roosevelt’s stretch grant supports the advancement of inclusive and equitable education in our school by contributing to our essential professional development and data-driven instructional planning initiatives. Your donations to the Ed Foundation are an investment that directly enhances the educational experiences of all students, with a particular focus on BIPOC and ELL students. Our initiatives include:

  • Continued School-Wide TK-5th Grade DEIB Professional Development Workshops: Partnering with experts Alicia Jackson and Kristi Mraz, funding provides workshops that integrate Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) cultural pedagogies into our math and ELA content areas, while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Teacher Subout Days for Data Meetings: Full implementation of these practices depends upon facilitating dedicated time for teachers to collaborate with the Instructional Coach and Principal to review and analyze assessment data. These meetings will focus on understanding the progress of BIPOC and ELL students, allowing us to intentionally plan and tailor instruction to promote academic success.
  • Data Meetings – Fall & Spring: Conducting comprehensive data meetings twice a year to ensure continuous monitoring and adjustment of instructional strategies, aimed at improving outcomes for all students, particularly those from marginalized groups.

Santa Monica Alternative School House (SMASH)

Ed Foundation funds impactful programs at SMASH, benefiting every student:

 

  • Support for Arts Programs: Ensuring that students have access to an excellent arts education in music, dance, theater and visual arts. Cores 1, 2, & 3 will receive Drama classes weekly through the stretch grant as well.
  • Middle School Orchestra Teacher: Providing Core 4 students an opportunity to engage in music together, and preparing them for high school orchestra
  • Teacher & Staff Development: Empowering our educators with cutting-edge professional development, in both project-based and social-emotional learning, enabling them to create personalized learning experiences that meet each SMASH student where they are
  • Grants to SMASH teachers, and much more!

Will Rogers Learning Community

At Will Rogers Learning Community we have invested in the future of sustainable education with our Regenerative Farm Instructional Programming. We are dedicated to providing hands-on, impactful learning experiences for students in grades TK-5th, and we need your support to continue this enriching opportunity for our school.

Our stretch grant funds will be allocated among three specialized vendors who bring invaluable expertise and opportunities to our farm:

  • Farmer for Maintenance: Ensuring our farm is well-maintained and operates smoothly, providing a safe and productive environment for learning.
  • Farmer for Co-Teaching and IB Integration: Our co-teaching farmer, allows for easy collaboration with our teachers to integrate International Baccalaureate (IB) units of study, enriching our curriculum with real-world agricultural practices.
  • Move the World: Composting Program: Funding ensures we can continue implementing a comprehensive composting program that includes assemblies, staff training, and ongoing maintenance, promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Your donations to the Ed Foundation directly contribute to creating a dynamic, hands-on learning environment where students can explore the principles of regenerative farming, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. John Adams Middle School

Support the well-being and academic growth of our students by contributing to the Ed Foundation. Annual stretch grants funded by your donations support our targeted initiatives aimed at enhancing mindfulness, engineering, and enrichment activities. Your investment funds impactful programs and resources, fostering a well-rounded and engaging educational environment. JAMS relies on our Stretch Grant to make these programs possible in the coming school year:

  • Targeted Mindfulness Work for all grades: Implement mindfulness programs to support the mental health and well-being of our middle school students, alongside staff development to ensure these practices benefit the entire student body.
  • Partnership with Digital Dragon to Enhance Our Engineering Pathway: Provide students with cutting-edge skills in game design and coding, preparing them for future careers in technology and engineering.
  • Enrichment Clubs: Offer a variety of clubs that promote creativity and collaboration, enriching our students’ educational experience beyond the classroom.

We invest our stretch grants, made possible by Ed Foundation donations, in the holistic development of our students by supporting a wide range of educational initiatives that enhance learning experiences and foster growth. Your SMEF contributions directly fund several key programs and activities, enriching our school community:

  • Theatre Production: Nurtures creativity and cultivates confidence through engaging theatre productions and learning about the dramatic arts both onstage and behind the scenes.
  • Technological Resources: Enhance learning with cutting-edge tools by purchasing Delta Math, providing students with advanced resources for their mathematical education.
  • Facility Updates: Creating a conducive learning environment by updating facilities and acquiring much needed new tables.
  • Field Trips and Enrichment Activities: Broaden students’ horizons with enriching field trips and enriching activities that promote experiential learning.
  • National Junior Honor Society Licensing: Support the recognition and development of outstanding student leaders through our NJHS program.
  • Teacher Professional Development: Facilitate sub out days for teachers to norm, score, participate in learning walks, and engage in data articulation meetings, as well as provide additional hours for curriculum development and lesson planning.
  • Special Events: Help support special events like Worthwhile Life Interviews, 7th Grade Writing Night, Get Your Stuff Day, Camp Lincoln, and 6th Grade Student-Led Conferences.
