Emily Arms

Emily Arms has taught transfer-level English courses at Santa Monica College since 2008. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from UCLA, where she taught in the School of Education. Emily has also taught in the graduate education programs at USC and LMU. Prior to earning her Ph.D., Emily taught high school English, served as Department Chair and was Curriculum Director.
A proud SMMUSD parent K-12, Emily served on the Grant site council, was JAMS Theatre’s volunteer Parent Producer served on Samohi Theatre’s Steering Committee and co-chaired Samohi Choir’s Sweet Serenade Auction. Most recently, Emily chaired Direct Donation for JAMS/SMASH Theatre’s 2022 production of the musical “Annie.”
A SoCal native, Emily was born in Manhattan Beach and attended public schools in Palos Verdes. She and her husband have lived in the Sunset Park neighborhood since 2007 where their child attended Grant, JAMS and Samohi.
